Everyone, including the Carthage community, is invited to A. F. Siebert Chapel on Thursday, March 27, where the Rev. Adam Miller-Stubbendick will be formally installed as campus pastor.

FAITH AND SPIRITUALITY AT CARTHAGE

The Rev. Paul Erickson, bishop for the Greater Milwaukee Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, will lead a worship service and installation ceremony at 11:30 a.m. The Rev. Wayne Miller, bishop emeritus of the Metro Chicago Synod, will give a sermon. Both bishops serve on the College’s Board of Trustees.

Carthage Campus Pastor Adam Miller-Stubbendick The Rev. Adam Miller-Stubbendick accepted the call to Carthage College as campus pastor in 2024.Lunch will be provided in the lobby after the service. Carry-out containers will be available for faculty, staff, and students who need to leave for class or other commitments.

The program will conclude with a panel discussion titled “Growing Faith at Carthage: Theory and Practice” at 1:30 p.m. The discussion will examine how the College and others like it can guide today’s students on their faith journeys. Three esteemed panelists are scheduled to participate:

  • the Rev. Dudley Riggle, a beloved Carthage professor emeritus of religion and former campus pastor who also co-founded the regional Hospice Alliance
  • Deacon Sue Rothmeyer, who serves as secretary of the ELCA after years in campus, young adult, and youth ministries
  • the Rev. Lamont Wells, executive director of the Network of ELCA Colleges and Universities and president of the African Descent Lutheran Association

Accepting the call to Carthage, Pastor Miller-Stubbendick arrived in July. Rooted in the Lutheran tradition, the College supports students from all belief systems through the Center for Faith and Spirituality.

Previously, he and his family spent 18 unforgettable months in Jerusalem and the West Bank, coordinating an ELCA service program for young adults. Pastor Miller-Stubbendick also served congregations in Nebraska and New York, as well as students at Elon University in North Carolina.

Born and raised in Nebraska, Pastor Miller-Stubbendick has a bachelor’s degree from Gustavus Adolphus College in Minnesota and a Master of Divinity from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. He and his wife, Jordan (likewise an ordained ELCA minister), have two sons.

The Siebert Chapel worship space, unavailable for most of the spring semester due to donor-funded upgrades, will reopen briefly for the installation. Students can still access the Center for Faith and Spirituality offices, Ehrler Hospitality Center, and the supplementary food items at Luther’s Lunchbox during the closure.
